The May Social Security payment schedule is about to begin. This means that, primarily, retirees in the United States may have a new retirement payment in just a few days. So check well the requirements of the upcoming retirement check to find out if you have access to it.
In case you are not able to get the next check that the Social Security Administration will send out there is nothing to worry about. In total, the Administration will send out 4 retirement checks in May, so one of them will be for you. It will also send two extra checks that can be accessed by fulfilling several requirements.
How to apply for the next Social Security check?
First of all, we must be clear that in order to get the next day’s check it is not necessary to have a birthday at a specific time of the month. The requirement established to be able to have the first of each month’s retirement checks is related to the beneficiary’s retirement date.
Therefore, just by having the Social Security benefit since before May 1997, we will be able to enjoy the retirement payment in just a few days. The exact date of remittance will be May 3rd. To receive the payment on the same day it is sent, remember to activate Direct Deposit. If we don’t activate it, the payment will arrive a few days later, but it will still arrive.
How do I get extra Social Security payments in May?
The Social Security Administration sends an extra payment each month to those retirees who meet certain requirements. This extra payment is called Supplemental Security Income and can award up to $943 per beneficiary.
In the month of May, the Administration will send two of these payments due to an irregularity in the calendar, but it is usual to send only one of them. The days of sending these checks will be the 1st and 31st of the month. And with Direct Deposit we will be able to have both checks on the same mailing day.
Remember that the requirements to have a monthly Supplemental Security Income are to have low resources, as well as be 65 years old or older or have a disability. But if you have not previously applied for the check you will not be able to get it, since the Social Security Administration must accept the application.
