One of Rachel Reeves’ advisers previously said “codger” pensioners should pay more tax and said young people should have access to free TV licences.
Sir Edward Troup was announced last week as part of a panel of experts appointed by the shadow chancellor to advise her on cracking down on tax avoidance.
But Troup, a former HMRC executive chair who also advised Ken Clarke, told an event in 2019 that pensioners were an “under-taxed generation” who “have had it particularly good”.
