PINEVILLE, N.C. — One person is fighting for their life in the hospital after being shot at a Pineville shopping center on Sunday evening.
The incident happened just before 6:30 p.m. on Pineville-Matthews Road, near Kettering Drive.
The witness says that the employee allegedly got help from a family member. The suspect supposedly ran to his car and grabbed a gun before going back into the store and shooting the worker. He also told Counts that the victim appeared to be okay.
MEDIC says they took one person to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Veteran crime reporter Glenn Counts went to the scene and was able to speak with an employee off-camera, who said he believed the suspect was trying to steal from Walmart when an employee got into a scuffle.
Linda Smith is a regular customer and also acquainted with the victim’s family; she told Counts her thoughts are with them.
“They are wonderful people; they are awesome; they will help you with anything; they are just so good,” Smith said. “I had lost my wallet somewhere, and I came back the next day, and they just go out of the way.”
Officers with the Pineville Police Department say they have one person in custody but haven’t confirmed whether or not an employee was a victim.
Details are limited at this time.
